South Korea saw its imports of thermal coal (both bituminous and sub-bituminous coals) rise 7.14% from 6.92 million tonnes a month ago to 7.42 million tonnes in June, said the South Korean Customs. This marked a new high since January this year.

Bituminous Coal
South Korea imported 7.28 million tonnes of bituminous coal in June, up by 11.56% year on year and up 8.38% from May.
South Korea imported the largest amount of bituminous coal totaling 1.95 million tonnes from Australia in June, rising 29.93% year on year but decreasing 18.65% month on month.
Imports from Indonesia were 1.68 million tonnes, sliding 25.22% from the year prior but inching up 3.33% from May.
South Korea took 1.68 million tonnes from Russia, sliding 1.48% from the year-ago level and decreasing 6.6% from May.
Total bituminous coal import amounted to $449 million, up 1.6% from the month-ago level. The June average import price was calculated $61.62/t, a year-on-year decrease of 18.49% and a monthly fall of 6.25%.
Sub-bituminous Coal
In June, South Korea imported 139,300 tonnes of sub-bituminous coal in total, a year-on-year rise of 8.74% and a month-on-month drop of 32.93%.
South Korea took 138,300 tonnes from Indonesia in the month, increasing 9.33% year on year but decreasing 33.25% month on month.
Total sub-bituminous coal import reached $5.79 million, a decrease of 39.92% from May. The average import price was $41.54/t in June, dropping from $62.05/t the year prior, and decreasing 10.42% from $46.37/t in May.
