China's raw coal production dipped 0.9% year on year to 331.07 million tonnes in September, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on October 19.
The decline was mainly ascribed to stricter safety and environmental inspections at coal mines in main production areas in September, causing a mild supply crunch.
The output, however, increased by 1.61% from 325.81 million tonnes in August, data showed, as some production bases started taking measures to ramp up output and ensure winter supply amid cooling weather in North China.
Inner Mongolia, a major coal production hub, has been working to raise coal output by loosening control of coal sales quotas or quickening approval of coal mine resumption.
Some large coal miners in Shaanxi also received notice to increase coal production lately, which may further boost domestic supply in the fourth quarter.
Daily coal production came in at 11.04 million tonnes last month, up by 530,000 tonnes on the month.
In the first nine months, China produced a total 2.79 billion tonnes of raw coal, losing 0.1% from a year ago but holding steady from January-August.
