Anglo American PLC cut its full-year guidance for thermal coal production from 21 million tonnes to 19 million tonnes, due to strikes at Cerrejon mine in Colombia, the company said its quarterly production report.
The company's thermal coal production fell 11% from the year-ago level to 5.6 million tonnes in third quarter. In the year to September, the nation extracted 16.2 million tonnes of coal, falling 17% year on year.
Export thermal coal production in South Africa increased 7% on the year to 4.6 million tonnes in Q3, rising 28% on the month. The production fell 7% to 12.38 million tonnes in the year to September.
Colombia's export thermal coal output plunged 50% on the year to 1.04 million tonnes in Q3, surging 35% from a quarter ago. The production in first nine months of 2020 fell 40% on the year to 3.78 million tonnes.
In addition, the company produced 4.8 million tonnes of met coal in Q3, down 26% year on year. In the year to September, the met coal output reduced 24% on the year to 12.6 million tonnes.
