Japan saw its coke imports rebound noticeably in September to a new high since May, according to Japan Ministry of Finance.

Japan imported 24,000 tonnes of coke last month, surging 215.79% from August, but still 35.31% lower compared with the year-ago level, data showed.

Intakes from Chinese mainland stood at 22,100 tonnes, falling 37.22% from a year ago but soaring 281.03% from the preceding month.

The volume accounted for 92.08% of Japan's total coke imports in September, higher than 76.32% in August but lower than 94.88% in the year-ago month.

The imports from China's Taiwan were 1,700 tonnes, steady year on year but down 5.56% from a month ago.

Japan's total coke imports were worth 986 million yen ($9.46 million), down 40.75% year on year but up 233.31% on the month. The unit import price was calculated at 41,085.42 yen/t, down 8.4% year on year but up 5.55% on the month.

Over January-September, Japan imported 209,600 tonnes of coke, falling 68.69% from the same period last year, data showed.
