Japan produced 44.3 million tonnes of crude steel in first seven months (April-October) of the ongoing fiscal year, slumping 24.7% on the year, showed data from Japan Iron & Steel Federation on November 25.
In October, Japan's crude steel output totaled 7.2 million tonnes, falling 11.7% on the year but rising 11% on the month.
The country's finished steel production rose 11.4% from September to 5.72 million tonnes in October, while special steel products output fell 21.8% on the year but increased 9.8% on the month to 1.45 million tonnes.
In the month, Japan churned out 5.12 million tonnes of pig iron, down 16.1% year on year but up 10.1% month on month.
