China imported 4.84 million tonnes of thermal coal (including bituminous and sub-bituminous coals but excluding lignite) in October, slumping 58.02% year on year and 41.19% month on month, showed the latest data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on November 25.
The imports value tumbled 66.25% from a year ago and 41.53% from a month ago to $243.02 million. Price of imported thermal coal was averaged $50.21/t in the month, dropping $0.29/t from a month ago and $12.25/t from the previous year.
From January to October, China imported a total of 107.35 million tonnes of thermal coal, rising 0.28% year on year, with the cumulative expenditure reducing 13.22% from a year ago to $6.36 billion.
China imported 2.56 million tonnes of lignite in October, diving 68.5% on the year and down 23.81% on the month. The import value was $92.77 million, a 72.9% tumble year on year.
China's lignite imports totaled 75.15 million tonnes during January-October period, falling 21.7% year on year, with the imports value amounting to $2.97 billion, falling 28.5% from the year-ago level.
