Coal exports from three terminals of North Queensland in Australia hit an 11-month high in December, showed the latest data from North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation.
North Queensland's coal exports stood at 12.24 million tonnes in December, falling 11.84% from 13.89 million tonnes in November but surging 29.58% from a year ago.
North Queensland mainly exports coal from Hay Point, Dalrymple Bay and Abbot Point terminals.
Coal departures from Abbot Point, the smallest among the three terminals with annual capacity of 50 Mtpa, were 2.63 million tonnes, down 17.78% year on year but rising 22.24% month on month.
The terminal exported 29.85 million tonnes of coal over the year, ticking down 0.86% from the same period last year.
Dalrymple Bay, with an annual capacity of 85 million tonnes, exported 5.18 million tonnes of coal last month, down 22.74% year on year but up 11.51% month on month. 2020 shipments declined 18.22% to 54.58 million tonnes.
Hay Point, run by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance with a capacity of 55 million tonnes, exported 4.43 million tonnes of coal in December, rising 11.35% year on year and jumping 67.33% month on month, bringing the total exports to 46.46 million tonnes in the year, down 6.77%.
Most coal exports from North Queensland are coking coal.
