Eastern China's Shandong province had 98 coal mines as of December 31, 2020, with the combined production capacity of 128.81 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), according to an announcement by Shandong Energy Administration on January 19.
The province had two mines in construction with total capacity of 2.25 Mtpa, and 96 mines in operation with 126.86 Mtpa.
Compared with the data released by the administration in July 2020, the number of coal mines reduced by 5 and the production capacity fell by 12.93 Mtpa.
The National Mine Safety Administration declared that Shandong had 102 coal mines with the production totaling 140.03 Mtpa as of December 31, 2019.
Shandong government planed that province-wide coal production capacity will be controlled below 130 Mtpa by 2022 and the output will be around 100 million tonnes.
It also aims to develop Shandong Energy Group Co. Ltd. and Yankuang Group Co. Ltd., whose production capacity all surpassed 100 Mtpa. By 2022, large-scale miners' coal output will account for above 90% of the province's total.
