Coal consumption of power generators in Taiwan fell 9.53% month on month but rose 15.92% year on year to 2.43 million tonnes in November, hitting a nine-month low since March 2020, showed data from the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
State-owned Taiwan Power Company (Taipower), the largest power utility in the island, burned 1.87 million tonnes of coal in November, up 20.87% year on year but down 7.07% month on month, the lowest level since March 2020.
Independent power producers (IPPs) consumed 558,100 tonnes of coal in November, up 1.95% from the year prior but sliding 16.91% month on month.
The accumulative coal burns stood at 32.56 million tonnes during the first eleven months last year, dropping 0.5% from a year earlier, with 24.99 million tonnes (-3.33% YoY) burned by Taipower and 7.57 million tonnes (10.11% YoY) by IPPs.
