South Korea's May thermal coal (other bituminous coal and other coal) imports slumped to a new low since eight years ago, according to South Korean customs.
South Korea's imports of thermal coal fell 12.69% year on year and 5.09% from April to 6.05 million tonnes in the month, data showed.
South Korea imported 5.97 million tonnes of other bituminous coal in May, falling 11.09% year on year and 3.1% month on month. Other coal imports slumped 64.13% year on year and 64.04% month on month respectively to 74,500 tonnes.
The value of thermal coal import amounted to $491 million in May, up 8.85% year on year. The average import price was calculated at $81.22/t, a year-on-year rise of 24.66%.
In January-May, the country's thermal coal imports slid 7.25% on the year to 31.68 million tonnes with import value at $2.29 billion, a year-on-year fall of 0.37%.
