China logged a sharp 28.7% year-on-year decline in coking coal imports in May, mainly due to a drastic drop in shipments from Mongolia amid outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and continued ban on Australian coal.

The import value came in at $537.79 million in May, falling 4.7% on the year and down 2.72% on the month. That translated to an average import price of $157.72/t, rising $39.93/t but down $1.15/t.
China's coking coal imports tumbled 43% from the year prior to 18.15 million tonnes in January-May, with the value down 43.8% to $2.41 billion.
