Coal consumption of major power plants of Hunan province totaled 1.28 million tonnes in May, down 39% from the year prior, said the statistics bureau of Hunan province.
By June 14, coal stocks at major power plants came in at 3.19 million tonnes, enough for more than 19 days of consumption.
Coal consumption of major power plants in January-May amounted to10.83 million tonnes, up 15.2% year on year.
The province's power consumption totaled 15.82 TWh in May, increasing 13.1% from the year before. The peak load of major power plants was 24.03 GW on May 15, up 6.4% year on year.
As of June 16, the maximum power load was 31.95 GW, the highest in this summer.
Power consumption of the province totaled 81.72 TWh in January-May, up 15.4% year on year.
For the non-residential segment, the primary industries – mainly the agricultural sector – saw power consumption rise 21.8% year on year to 680 GWh; consumption in the secondary industries – mainly the industrial sector – reached 40.91 TWh, with a 19.3% increase from a year earlier; that of the tertiary industries – mainly the service sector – came in at 15.89 TWh, rising 32.7% from the preceding year.
Power consumed by residential sector stood at 24.24 TWh, climbing 1.1% from the year prior.
