China will gradually issue action plans and supporting measures for peaking carbon emissions in key areas and sectors, Xinhua News Agency quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping as saying on October 12.
President Xi gave a speech at the leaders' summit of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity via a video link in Beijing.
The country will also put in place a "1+N" policy framework for carbon peak and carbon neutrality, he said.
China will continue to readjust its industrial structure and energy mix and vigorously develop renewable energy, the president said.
The country will make faster progress in developing large wind and solar power stations in uninhabited sandy areas in the northwest, Xi said, adding the first phase of projects with an installed capacity of 1 GW has started construction.
