The US coal output was estimated at 11.76 million short tons (10.67 million tonnes) over the week ending on October 9, up 3.05% from the previous week and 14.71% from the same period last year, showed data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on October 14.
Coal production in Wyoming and Montana combined was estimated at 5.16 million short tons, down 0.72% from the week prior but up 7.93% from a year ago.
Illinois's output was estimated at 900,000 short tons, up 21.05% from the previous week and 56.77% year on year, while Appalachian coal production was estimated at 3.30 million short tons, up 6.27 % from the previous week and 29.12% from the previous year.
Over the first 41 weeks in 2021, US coal production was estimated at 451 million short tons, up 8.8% year on year.
U.S. rail coal shipments were 67.68 million short tons in the week, up 3.82% from a week ago and 8.76% from a year before.
