Erenhot border crossing in northern China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region announced to suspend non-containerized coal imports via railway from November 28 until further notice, as one of the measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 cases.
The inland port has stopped importing coal by road since October 14.
From 14:00 on November 28, Erenhot will stop importing coal, iron ore, fertilizer, petroleum, etc. that are not been loaded into containers, and temporarily suspend the unloading of goods that had arrived discharging area before the time.
Non-containerized coal import increases the potential for contacts between workers in the two countries, and is prone to the spread of COVID-19, especially after a new variant Omicron was deemed as a concern by the WHO.
