Coal India Ltd., India's largest state-run coal miner, reported its coal production climbed 3.26% from 58.3 million tonnes a year ago to 60.2 million tonnes in December, hitting a nine-month high since April 2021, said the company in a statement.
The output was 11.9% higher than 53.8 million tonnes in November, according to the statement.
CIL produced 413.6 million tonnes of coal during the first nine months (April-December) of current fiscal year, up 5.3% from 392.8 million tonnes during the same period of last year.
Its sales rose 15.62% on the year to 60.7 million tonnes in December. The volume rose by 6.87% from the month-ago level, hitting the highest since June 2019.
The accumulative coal sales in the first nine months stood at 481.8 million tonnes, rising 17.6% from 409.6 million tonnes in the same period in 2020.
Coal production by CIL accounts for over 80% of India's coal output, and the firm plans to churn out 640 million tonnes of coal in this fiscal year and 1 billion tonnes during fiscal year 2023-24.
