South Korea's anthracite imports slumped 41.7% year on year and 40.76% month on month to 437,600 tonnes in December 2021, down from a high level recorded in November, customs data showed.
South Korea took the largest amount of anthracite from Australia at 216,000 tonnes in December, falling 31.73% year on year and 51.88% from November, accounting for 49% of the country's total imports; intakes from Russia dived 62.67% year on year and 43.14% month on month to 156,200 tonnes, a share of 36%.
The import value jumped by 43.12% year on year to $93.66 million in December, a month-on-month fall of 40.08%. That translates to an average import price of $214.03/t, skyrocketing 145.5% year on year and up 1.15% month on month.
In 2021, South Korea's anthracite imports totaled 6.48 million tonnes, 3.45% higher than the year-ago level. The cumulative import value reached $888 million, with average price at $137.16/t, rising 41.58% on the year.
