South Korea imported 29,700 tonnes of coke in December 2021, rising 74.71% year on year but falling 29.12% month on month, customs data showed.
China remained the major coke supplier to South Korea. The country bought 24,700 tonnes of coke from China in December, rising 51.53% year on year but falling 11.79% month on month. The volume accounted for 83% of the total imports, expanding 16 percentage points from a month ago.
South Korea spent $15.78 million in December for coke imports, jumping 211.36% year on year but falling 18.49% month on month. The import price therefore averaged $531.41/t, up 78.22% year on year and 14.99% month on month.
In January-December, South Korea's coke imports totaled 350,800 tonnes, rising 17.17% from a year ago. Import value was $140 million and the average price was $400.11/t, 57.97% higher than the year-ago level.
