China produced 1.03 billion tonnes of crude steel in 2021, down 3.0% from 1.05 billion tonnes in the preceding year, well beating the target of limiting output at the year-ago level, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
Crude steel output in December totaled 86.19 million tonnes, up 24.4% from the preceding month yet 6.8% lower compared with the year-ago level, data showed. The daily crude steel output averaged 2.78 million tonnes last month, up 20.3% from November.
The accumulative pig iron output was 870 million tonnes in 2021, down 4.3% from a year ago. Production stood at 72.10 million tonnes in December, up 16.8% month on month but down 5.4% on the year, putting the daily output at 2.33 million tonnes, up 13% from November.
Steel products output totaled 1.34 billion tonnes in 2021, up 0.6% year on year. Production in December was 110 million tonnes, up 12.4% on the month but falling 5.2% from the year-ago level. The daily output was calculated at 3.66 million tonnes, up 8.8% month on month.
