Australian miner BHP produced 8.82 million tonnes of metallurgical coal during October-December, down 7% year on year but largely flat quarter on quarter, according to its quarterly report.
The unchanged production compared with last quarter was mainly due to interruptions of rainfalls on most operations in the fourth quarter and planned maintenance in the previous quarter.
Given La Niña-related wet weather during the fourth quarter and COVID-19-related labour constraints, the company's production guidance for this financial year has been reduced to 38-41 million tonnes from 39-44 million tonnes.
BHP's metallurgical coal output was 17.68 million tonnes in the first half of this fiscal year, down 8% from the same period of last year.
Iron ore output of company was 66.10 million tonnes during October to December, up 6% year on year and 4% from the previous quarter. Iron ore output of the first half of this fiscal year was 129 million tonnes, up 1% from the year prior.
Iron ore production guidance for this fiscal year is 249-259 million tonnes.
