Four major energy-intensive industries in China all registered increases in power consumption in 2021, according to the latest data from the China Electricity Council.
The chemical material industry consumed 509.7 TWh of electricity last year, a 6.9% rise from the year-ago level, with the growing accelerating 4.5 percentage points compared with a year ago.
Power consumption in the building materials industry grew 7.4% year on year to 421.1 TWh in 2021, accelerating 3.7 percentage points compared with a year earlier.
The non-ferrous smelting industry's power consumption stood at 636.1 TWh, down 6.7% year on year, a faster increase compared with a 9.5% increase in 2020.
Power usage in the ferrous smelting industry was 700.2 TWh, rising 5.4% from the previous year. The growth retreated by 0.1 percentage point from a year ago, data showed.
