China's electricity consumption increased 3.4% year on year to 2,680.9 TWh in the first four months of this year, showed data from the National Energy Administration on May 13.
Specifically, for non-residential segment, the primary industries – mainly the agricultural sector — consumed 32 TWh of electricity, up 10.8% from a year earlier. The secondary industries – mainly the industrial sector – used 1,770.4 TWh, up 1.9% year on year, and the tertiary industry – mainly the service sector – registered a 3.1% rise to 453.1 TWh.
Residential power usage increased 10.5% on the year to 425.4 TWh in January-April.
China consumed a total of 636.2 TWh of electricity in April, down 1.3% year on year, as the COVID-19 lockdowns curbed industrial and economic activities.
The primary industries consumed 7.8 TWh, up 5.5%; the secondary industries and the tertiary industries used 446.8 TWh and 97.9 TWh of electricity, respectively, down 1.4% and 6.8%. Residential power usage rose 5.5% to 83.7 TWh during the period.
