Xiluodu hydropower station, the world's fourth largest of its kind in terms of electricity capacity, witnessed its cumulative power generation surpass the 500-TWh milestone on June 2, the China Three Gorges Corporation said.
The clean generation is equivalent to burning 152 million tonnes of standard coal, which would generate 416 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Xiluodu, located in the junction of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, started full operation in 2014. Since the first units were put into operation, the dam has been commissioned for more than 3,000 days.
The power station has 18 units with a total installed capacity of 13.86 GW. It produces 57-64 TWh of power annually, mainly powering the south and east of China.
The dam owns a reservoir of 6.46 billion cubic meters, helping power generation for the downstream stations of Three Gorges and Gezhouba in the dry season.
Xiluodu, together with Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba, constitute the world's largest clean energy corridor, providing constant green power for high-quality economic and social development.
"We will continue to implement important measures to ensure energy supply, take advantage of excessive incoming water during the flood season, and ensure that all 18 units of the power station are fully operational," said Zhang Ge, director of the plant.
