Chongqing's major coal-fired power plants consumed 1.29 million tonnes of coal in June, down 20.64% from the year before, according to Chongqing Economic and Information Commission.
Its total consumption amounted to 9.69 million tonnes during the first six months of 2022, down 7.17% on the year, said the commission.
As of end-June, the city's major power plants had 3.73 million tonnes of coal stocks, compared with 2.47 million tonnes a year ago, presenting a growth of 51.14% or 1.26 million tonnes on the year.
In June, Chongqing purchased 1.71 million tonnes of coal, down 13.62% year on year. Coal purchases from Shaanxi decreased 5.16% year on year to 967,300 tonnes, and 165,800 tonnes were shipped via waterway from northern ports, down 29.46%.
211,500 tonnes were shipped from Guizhou, up 7.8% from the year prior, and 218,200 tonnes from Shanxi, falling 38.22% from the year-ago level. Purchases from Gansu, Sichuan and Xinjiang respectively totaled 73,000 tonnes (+32.3% YoY), 23,400 tonnes (-71.82% YoY) and 13,100 tonnes (-59.57% YoY).
