China aims to reduce energy consumption per unit added value of industrial enterprises with an income over 20 million yuan ($2.96 million) by 13.5% from 2020 level by the end of the 14th-Five Year Plan period (2021-25), according to a plan for carbon peaking for the industrial sector issued on August 1.
The notice was co-issued by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
It also said the decline of carbon dioxide emissions per unit added value of industrial enterprises is planned to be greater than that of the whole society, and the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions in key industries is expected to decrease significantly.
The country will work to realize carbon peaking in industrial sector before 2030.
To meet the goal, China will lay out industries that are conducive to carbon emissions, strictly curb low-level and blind development of energy-intentive projects, optimize capacity scale of key sectors, control fossil fuel consumption and promote coal replacement in steel, construction materials and non-ferrous metal industries.
