Coal mines in Ordos, China's top producing city in Inner Mongolia, have completed 70% of coal delivery through medium- and long-term contracts in the first half of the year, official said.
In January-June, China's central government assigned coal supply contracts with a total number of 724 million tonnes to Ordos, accounting for 96% of the region's production over the period, said Liu Ruizong, deputy director of Ordos Energy Administration.
The local energy regular also approved additional capacity of 69.2 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) at 60 coal mines over the period, Liu said.
Since 2021, the coal hub has undertaken the assignment of supplying coal to seven cities/counties in Inner Mongolia and 18 provinces nationwide, playing a significant role in ensuring coal and energy security in the country.
At present, Ordos has 242 coal mines in operation with a total capacity of 840 Mtpa. The city now has 14 large coal mining bases and nine coal-power complexes. It is also a key production area for natural gas supply from the west to the east.
