Construction on Adani port in southern India is expected to restart on December 8, after fishermen agreed to stop their protests that had lasted for four months.
The protesters blocked the entrance to the construction site of the project which, they believed, was to blame for coastal erosion, loss of their dwellings and working days which affected their livelihoods.
Adani Group confirms the port complies with all laws and the shoreline erosion has nothing to do with the project but natural causes according to relevant studies.
The $900-million port is strategically important for Adani and India, and it is expected to be the country's first container transshipment hub for business on the lucrative east-west trade routes after completion.
The first phase of construction was due to be completed by the end of 2024, according to the company.
