China has 52 10-Mtpa-level coal mines in operation

China has 52 10-Mtpa-level coal mines with the total approved production capacity of 821 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) as of now, accounting for 1/5 of the total capacity of operating coal mines in China, according to statistics of China National Coal Association.


The 52 mines are distributed in seven provinces (autonomous regions) and 14 cities.


In particular, 21 mines or 391 Mtpa are located in Inner Mongolia, 15 mines or 210 Mtpa in Shaanxi, eight mines or 133 Mtpa in Shanxi province, three mines or 30 Mtpa in Xinjiang, two mines or 24 Mtpa in Ningxia, two mines or 23.3 Mtpa in Anhui and one mine or 10 Mtpa in Yunnan province.


Of these mines, 15 mines or 210 Mtpa are located in Yulin city of Shaanxi province, 11 mines or 206 Mtpa in Ordos of Inner Mongolia and six mines or 92 Mtpa in Shuozhou city of Shanxi province.


Specifically, 33 mines are underground mines with a total capacity of 467 Mtpa, and the remaining 19 are open-pit mines with a total capacity of 354 Mtpa.


Among them, three coal mines' production capacity exceeds 30 Mtpa each and all of the three are open-pit mines. They are Shenhua Jungar Energy Haerwusu open-pit mine (35Mtpa), Shenhua Baorixile open-pit mine (35Mtpa) and Shenhua Jungar Energy Heidaigou open-pit mine (34Mtpa).


Nine mines' production capacity is 20-30Mtpa each, including three underground mines. They are Shenhua Bulianta mine (28Mtpa), Datong Coal Datang Tashan mine (25Mtpa), Shenhua Buertai mine (20Mtpa).


In terms of the ownership, 36 coal mines are owned by central enterprises, 13 by provincial and local state-owned enterprises and 3 by private companies.


Among 36 coal mines owned by central enterprises, 19 mines are owned by CHN Energy, six by China Coal and five by State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC).


Among 13 coal mines owned by provincial state-owned enterprises, five mines are owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry, three by Datong Coal, two by Yankuang and one by Huaihe Energy Group.
