Coal consumption of power generators in Taiwan climbed 9.24% month on month to 3.79 million tonnes in July, showed data from the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
It also marked a year-on-year rise of 4.73% from 3.62 million tonnes a year ago, the first time since March it realized a positive growth.
State-owned Taiwan Power Company (Taipower), the largest power utility in the island, burned 3 million tonnes of coal, up 6% year on year and 14.58% month on month, rising for the eighth month in a row.
Independent power producers (IPPs) consumed 792,800 tonnes of coal in Jul, up 0.2% from the year prior but sliding 7.11% month on month.
The accumulative coal burns stood at 20.24 million tonnes during the first seven months this year, dropping 3.55% from a year earlier, with 15.43 million tonnes (-8.1% YoY) burned by Taipower and 4.81 million tonnes (14.61% YoY) by IPPs.
