Guizhou province in southwestern China had 255 coal mines in operation by end-December last year, with production capacity combined at 137.77 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
Bijie city saw the largest share of 37% in the number of operating mines of the province, with 94 mines in normal operation, while Liupanshui ranked first in terms of annual capacity, at 59.65 Mtpa or 43% of Guizhou's total.
There were 25 coal mines on trial run, which could annually produce 16.75 million tonnes of coal.
In January-November last year, Guizhou churned out 107.42 million tonnes of raw coal, ranking fifth in China. Its full-year raw coal output is forecast to be 121 million tonnes and thermal coal supply is 70 million tonnes.
As of end-November, thermal coal stockpiles at power plants were 11 million tonnes.
The province shed a total 81 coal mines with capacity combined at 12.66 Mtpa in 2020, completing target of 10 Mtpa.
During the 13th "Five-Year Plan" period, Guizhou eliminated 74.26 Mtpa of coal production capacity, surpassing the goal of 70 Mtpa set in 2016.
