Five provinces in South China received 22.8 TWh of power in May through West-to-East electricity transmission channels, up 22.7% from a year earlier, according to Guangzhou Power Trading Center.
In May, cross-regional market-side power trading volume reached 8.52 TWh in the southern five provinces, surging 67.1% YoY. This contained 5.16 TWh through the West-to-East power transmission, accounting for 22.5% of the total delivery.
The power market trading volume within the five provinces reached 54.9 TWh in May, up 11.0% year on year. The volume made up 53.4% of the total market trading volume.
The West-to-East power transmission here refers to the power delivery from China's hydropower bases including Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi to the energy-thirsty Guangdong province. The five provinces are Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Hainan under the cover of the China Southern Power Grid.
From January to May, the East-to-West power delivery totaled 66.8 TWh, a 3.9% rise year on year; cross-regional trading volume rose 39.6% on the year to 27.9 TWh, including 14.7 TWh from the West-to-East delivery, or 22% of the total delivery.
The trading volume within the five provinces reached 237.5 TWh over the period, up 7.4% year on year, accounting for 50.2% of the total power supply.
By the end of May, the five provinces had 115,000 registered entities in the power trading market, with the number surging 51% year on year. These entities included 854 power generators, 947 power distributors and 113,600 end users.
