Central China's Hubei province had around 4.95 million tonnes of coal in stock as of June 20 across all grid-connected power plants, equivalent to cover 20.5 days of use, according to an industry conference held on June 22 in the province.
The branch of state power producer Huadian Group, the largest power producer in the province, said it had sent four teams to supervise coal loading and delivery at mines and coastal ports since end-April, to ensure steady and sufficient supply.
The company has stockpiles of 1.11 million tonnes at present. With more arrivals to come through long-term contracts and spot purchases, it will maintain the level above 1.11 million tonnes.
Ezhou power plant, an arm of Hubei Energy Group, said it has 660,000 tonnes of stockpiles for the time being. The plant has signed medium- and long-term contracts for 7.8 million tonnes this year, which can generally cover its annual consumption.
Jingzhou port, a significant hub receiving coal from Shaanxi and other producing regions for the province, have more than 500,000 tonnes of stocks. Hubei Energy Group is working for another 500,000 tonnes with miners in Shaanxi province to "give full play to an emergency reserve hub".
By end-June, the province will increase the power-oriented stocks above 5 million tonnes.
