Key power plants in central China's Hubei province received 3.12 million tonnes of coal from other provinces in May, falling 21.8% or 868,000 tonnes year on year, showed data from the local development and reform commission.
Coal consumption at key power utilities decreased 25.1% or 857,000 tonnes from a year ago to 2.55 million tonnes in the month, data showed.
By the end of last month, the combined coal stockpiles of major power plants in Hubei rose 854,000 tonnes from a month earlier to 5.17 million tonnes.
