The composite price of all thermal coal grades averaged 398.81 yuan/t last month in northern China's Inner Mongolia, up 0.05% from June and 4.37% from July 2021, data showed from the regional economic planner.
By area, the mine-mouth prices of lignite in the east Inner Mongolia averaged 331.79 yuan/t, up 0.98% from June and 18.8% from July 2021; the mine-mouth prices for thermal coal averaged 600 yuan/t in Ordos, down 0.83% month on month and 5.88% year on year.
By calorific value, the mine-mouth prices averaged 368.06 yuan/t, 462.33 yuan/t, 620 yuan/t and 680 yuan/t, respectively for 3,800 Kcal/kg, 4,500 Kcal/kg, 5,000 Kcal/kg and 5,500 Kcal/kg NAR thermal coal grades.
The 3,800 Kcal/kg price rose 1.12% from June, while 4,500 Kcal/kg price dropped 0.37%, and 5,000 Kcal/kg and 5,500 Kcal/kg prices were flat from the month earlier. On a year-on-year basis, the 3,800 Kcal/kg price increased 15.57% while 4,500 Kcal/kg, 5,000 Kcal/kg and 5,500 Kcal/kg prices declined 5.74%, 3.13% and 8.11%, respectively.
Looking this month, the regional economic planning agency expected the coal prices to remain range-bound in a narrow range.
While the hot days remain in August, high coal production and increasing coal stockpiles at power plants will ease the price's upward pressure, it said.
