China imported 8.39 million tonnes of coking coal in April 2023, rising 97% year on year but down 13.1% from the previous month, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs.
The import value came in at $1.66 billion in April, up 43.8% year on year but down 14.4% from the previous month. This translates to average import price at $198.1/t, falling $73.3/t from the preceding year and $3.09/t month on month.
China imported 31.14 million tonnes of coking coal in the first four months of 2023, rising 88.6% year on year, with the imports value jumping 36.0% to $6.18 billion.
China's anthracite imports came in at 1.31 million tonnes in April, rising 120% year on year but falling 29.5% month on month, data showed.
Import value totaled $260 million, up 144.8% year on year but down 34.4% from the previous month. The average import price was calculated at $198.9/t, up $20.1% year on year but down $15.1/t from March.
During the first four months, China imported 6.19 million tonnes of anthracite in total, climbing 144.4% year on year. The aggregate import amounts came in at $1.32 billion, surging 162.3% year on year, data showed.
