Heilongjiang, one industrial giant in northeastern China, plans to lower the share of coal in its energy mix to around 60% by 2025, according to an action plan targeting air quality improvement issued by the provincial government.
The province will phase out outdated coal preparation, strictly control new steelmaking capacity, and promote integrated development of steel, coking and sintering operations as well as the shift from blast furnace–converter long-process steelmaking to electric furnace short-process steelmaking.
The plan aims to cut PM2.5 concentration in the province by 3.6% from 2020 level by 2025, and the ratio of days with severe or above pollution will be controlled within 0.7%.
The emission reductions of VOCs and nitrogen oxides of key projects will reach 7,400 tonnes and 50,200 tonnes, respectively.
