China Coal Energy Co., Ltd, the listed arm of China National Coal Group, reported its polyolefin output was down 1.6% year on year but rose 5% on the month to 127,000 tonnes in December 2023.
Polyolefin sales decreased 8.5% on the year yet was 5.7% higher month on month at 130,000 tonnes, according to figures released by the company on January 12.
China Coal Energy produced 66,000 tonnes of polyethylene, flat from a year ago and up 4.8% from a month ago. The production of polypropylene was 61,000 tonnes, dropping 3.2% year on year yet up 5.2% month on month.
Sales of polyethylene declined 8.5% year on year but increased 12.1% month on month to 65,000 tonnes. Polypropylene sales were 65,000 tonnes, down 8.5% on the year and unchanged on the month.
In 2023, the company's polyethylene output totaled 768,000 tonnes, up 3.9% year on year, while that of polypropylene amounted to 719,000 tonnes, down 3% from a year earlier. Sales of polyethylene rose 3.1% on the year to 763,000 tonnes and that of polypropylene stood at 716,000 tonnes, down 1.8%.
The production of urea remained steady year on year and increased 3.5% month on month to 179,000 tonnes in December last year, and urea sales were 151,000 tonnes, climbing 16.2% year on year and 12.7% month on month.
In December, the company produced 146,000 tonnes of methanol, down 17% year on year yet up 5.8% month on month and sold 150,000 tonnes, falling 20.6% year on year but rising 2% month on month.
