Eastern China's Anhui province is intensifying efforts to boost renewable power generation and utilization while ensuring stable power supply in peak times with the support of coal-fired power.
Entities investing in coal power projects are encouraged to construct supportive wind and PV projects. Furthermore, the existing wind and PV projects should be prioritized for integration with coal power projects, according to a notice issued by the provincial energy authority lately.
The energy bureau encourages collaboration between investors in coal power projects and other enterprises for the construction of complementary wind and PV projects.
Notably, when the investor in the coal power project holds a controlling stake, the cumulative installed capacity for the supportive project should be at least 50% of the total capacity.
Incentive policies were introduced to facilitate the push. All cities with supportive wind and PV projects for coal power initiatives will be rewarded as per 30% of the actual allocated construction scale.
The directive also emphasized timely grid connection for wind and PV projects associated with coal-fired power projects.
Anhui's renewables deployment together with coal-fired power projects is in line with the country's broader pursuit for cleaner energy, with a higher share of renewable power consumption, while ensuring energy security with the safeguard of coal-fired power.
