China's power generation of all sources totaled 829 TWh in December 2023, an 8.0% rise from a year earlier, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics on January 17.
The year-on-year growth retreated by 0.4 percentage point compared with that of November. Daily power generation averaged 26.74 TWh in December.
The output of thermal power, mostly coal-fired, totaled 610.9 TWh in December, up 9.3% year on year; hydropower increased 2.5% YoY to 77.5 TWh; wind power 81.4 TWh, up 7.4% YoY; nuclear 38.1 TWh, down 4.2% YoY; solar 21.1 TWh, rising 17.2%, the NBS data showed.
In 2023, China's power generation totaled 8,909.1 TWh, a 5.2% rise from 2022.
Thermal power generation totaled 6,231.8 TWh last year, up 6.1% year on year; hydropower declined 5.6% YoY to 1,140.9 TWh; wind power climbed 12.3% YoY to 809.0 TWh; nuclear rose 3.7% to 433.3 TWh; and solar gained 17.2% to 294.0 TWh.
