Huanghua port handled a total of 330 million tonnes of cargoes throughout 2023, increasing 4.99% from the previous year, according to Cangzhou city news.
This was the fourth consecutive year for the port's cargo throughput to exceed 300 million tonnes.
The port had totally shipped 220 million tonnes of coal in 2023, rising 1.54% on the year, ranking first in the country. It also delivered 81 million tonnes of iron ore, a year-on-year increase of 13.5%; that of other cargo categories (including oil products, grain, steel and mining and construction materials) reached 29 million tonnes, growing 10.29% year on year.
A total of 4,922 vessels entered and departed the port in 2023, up 1.59% from the previous year, of which 200,000-tonne vessels reached 900, rising 3.21% on the year, data showed.
Huanghua port put the first 10,000-tonne liquefaction terminal and the first port railway central station into operation in 2023. The 70,000-tonne two-way channel in the port's coal area had been successfully opened to navigation.
Besides, the port had newly opened five domestic and foreign container trade routes, with routes reaching more than 40 countries and regions around the world.
Meanwhile, the port's layout of inland ports along Hanhuang, Shuohuang and Taizhongyin railways has been accelerated, establishing 11 inland ports. It not only improved the port's collection and distribution system, but also enhanced its internationalization levels.
Cangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd., the operator of Huanghua port, made efforts to shorten the waiting time for 200,000-tonne berths with joint support of relevant departments, contributing to faster and more efficient cargo shipments in the port.
The company will accelerate the investment of a total of 55.8 billion yuan for the construction of 21 terminal projects including containers, crude oil and LNG in 2024. It will also implement the upgrading of 200,000-tonne waterways in the comprehensive and bulk cargo port area, accelerating the construction of six special rail lines to perfect the collection and distribution system.
In 2024, Huanghua port is set to be a multi-functional, comprehensive, and modern port as a major hub for west-east and north-south coal shipments.
