Yangshan opencast coal mine, located in Panzhou city in western Guizhou, officially kicked off construction on the morning of March 21, said the local government.
The mine is designed with production capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). Its recoverable coal reserves amounts to 22.38 million tonnes, mainly being of coking coal, lean coal and meager coal, which could serve 20.35 years.
Yangshan mine boasts both open-pit and underground mining areas. The latter has a designed production capacity of 1.2 Mtpa, focusing on mining deeper resources.
The construction period of the project is estimated to be 24 months, its 86% stake owner Guizhou Panjiang Refined Coal Co., Ltd. said in a statement, anticipating that it will operate at full capacity in the year of completion.
Notably, this project is one of the provincial key projects in Guizhou for 2024 and the first officially constructed open-pit mining project in Liupanshui city.
Yangshan mine will not only accelerate the efforts to make efficient use of the abundant coal resources in Panzhou and even Liupanshui city, but also align with provincial goals of building a new comprehensive energy base, helping ensure coal supply in southwestern China.
