Vietnam's coal production in February fell substantially to a new low since March 2019, latest customs data showed.
The country produced 3.03 million tonnes of coal in February, slumping 21.23% from 3.84 million tonnes a year ago and 24.9% compared to 4.03 million tonnes in the previous month, showed data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Output amounted to 7.05 million tonnes in the first two months, 0.4% lower than 7.08 million tonnes in the same period last year.
The country's coal production is estimated at 4.37 million tonnes in March, down 5.13% year on year and 44.34% month on month compared with achieved production. Output over January-March is expected to come in at 11.42 million tonnes, a 2.26% decline on the year.
The majority of domestically-produced coal in Vietnam is used for electricity generation, cement production, and other industrial purposes.
