China Shenhua Energy Company Limited, a flagship subsidiary of China Energy Investment Corporation, produced 28.20 million tonnes of commercial coal in March, rising 3.3% from the year-ago level, which marked the highest since February 2022, said the company in a statement released on April 16.
The output was also 8.9% higher from a month ago as suspended mines restarted operations, the statement showed.
The company's commercial coal sales reached 40.00 million tonnes in March, increasing 2% on the year and 3.6% from a month earlier.
Huanghua port shipped 18.80 million tonnes of coal in the same month, up 4.4% year on year (YoY) and 11.2% month on month (MoM). Tianjin port shipped 3.70 million tonnes of coal, falling 5.1% YoY yet up 23.3% MoM, data showed.
The shipment volume came in at 10.90 million tonnes, down 10.7% YoY yet rising 25.3% MoM.
Besides, China Shenhua generated 18.1 TWh of electricity in March, dropping 3.3% YoY. Total electricity sales decreased 3.6% YoY to 17.03 TWh in the same month.
Over the first three months this year, China Shenhua churned out 81.30 million tonnes of commercial coal, up 1.5% YoY, while total sales rose 8.8% YoY to 117.10 million tonnes. Total power generation and sales reached 55.35 TWh and 52.46 TWh, jumping 7% and 7.6%, respectively.
The company's growing coal sales over January-March boosted shipping demand and the turnover efficiency of the company's railways. The shipment volume at Huanghua port climbed up on the year along with increasing resources arriving at the port, as well as the lower base in the same period last year.
