Liujiaxia Hydropower Station, the first 1-GW hydropower facility in China, has cumulatively produced 269.8 TWh of electricity since its establishment 55 years ago, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Situated in Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture of the northwestern province of Gansu, the station has been a pivotal contributor to the economic development of the province and the broader Northwest China region.
Throughout its history, the station has prioritized equipment upgrades and technological advancements. Projects such as the newly-built Taohe River estuary sand drainage tunnel and machine expansion project are poised to enhance the station's operational efficiency and resilience.
Furthermore, the station has played a crucial role in managing reservoir outflows, ensuring the safety of the Yellow River's middle and lower reaches. Its durability was demonstrated during significant events such as the formidable 1981 once-in-a-century flood and sustained periods of continuous full-load operations from 2018 to 2020.
